Fly Mobiles , one of the pioneers in dual SIM phones in Europe and a brand owned by the Meridian Group, headquartered in UK, [...]

Fly Mobiles , one of the pioneers in dual SIM phones in Europe and a brand owned by the Meridian Group, headquartered in UK, today announced the launch and availability of its all new QWERTY key pad dual-SIM phone, the Fly Circle (model no.B430DS) in India. Fly Circle enables you to connect to multiple instant messaging and social networks as well as use other utilities and applications. It is available for Rs 3849 only.

According to Mr. Prem Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, Fly Mobile (India Operations), “Fly Circle has an unbeatable combination of dual-SIM, QWERTY key pad, Nimbuzz and Snaptu applications bundled in one phone. This sleek and stylish ‘flaunt-it’ phone with multimedia features and all-in-one messenger and all-in-one social networking is sure to become the cynosure amidst all urban and tech-savvy youth in the 18-30 years of age bracket (college and office going), and all who are young at heart, who’d like to use its applications on the go. We want to position it as the final word when it comes to one-stop instant messaging and social networking. It will be launched in the metros and mini-metro cities initially along with all SEC A and B class towns.”

“The corner stone of the brand DNA at Fly Mobile is consumer research. Mobile phone buyers in general were facing the challenge that QWERTY key pad with many instant messaging and social networking features were a tad expensive. This is when Fly as an iconoclast stepped in said WHY NOT? Owing to the feedback that we seek from the market incessantly, we read the pulse well ahead and pressed our global design and development facilities into action to develop a phone as versatile as Fly Circle, one that has it all but still does not burn a hole in your pocket,” adds Kumar.

Fly Circle is powered with Nimbuzz, a new-generation mobile service designed for the online age, making you more mobile. Social networks & communities supported by the multiple award winning Nimbuzz application include Skype, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), GTalkTM, Yahoo! TM, AIM, MySpace, ICQ, and others. At the heart of Nimbuzz is the live contact list – an always-on, hyper-connected, dynamic address book, enhanced with “real-time-presence” showing at a glance who’s online, offline, busy or away, their status messages, and social community activity. You can launch IM chat sessions; conduct offline and voice messaging; send photos, videos, music etc., besides various other communication & interactive features. As a Nimbuzz user on Fly Circle you enjoy the freedom of communicating with friends between any internet enabled device, from mobile to mobile, mobile to PC / Mac and vice versa, harnessing the power of the Internet (Wi-Fi, 3G, 2G, GPRS).

Another revolutionary set of applications that’s bound to make Fly Circle a huge hit with the youth is Snaptu. Using Snaptu on Fly Circle, you can plug into Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr and Google Calendar from anywhere, anytime. Besides this, you can fill those idle moments with a game of Sudoku. And if you can’t get sleep for some reason, a really good way to kill time is the Trivia, an absorbing quick fire quiz. If you happen to be a sports aficionado, Snaptu keeps you updated on cricket and football from anywhere across the world. And if you have the nose for news you can get latest updates from Reuters, BBC, New York Times, Yahoo and hundreds of other credible sources. Not to forget the weather updates from any city in the world!

Interesting features that Fly Circle has which allow it score over the competing brands include wireless FM, schedule FM record & play, audio player with equalizer, 3.5 mm universal audio jack, internal memory of 10 MB, expandable memory up to 8 GB, 9 hours of talk time, 2.2″ QVGA TFT screen with 262K colours, 1000 contact phonebook, Opera Mini browser for accessing web, display of videos or pictures for certain selected numbers as and when you get a call from them, web camera, privacy protection, and mobile tracker with remote control. Some of the other features that make this dual-band phone an excellent buy are 1.3 mega pixel camera, video recording and play, 1100 mAH battery, sound recording, call and/or SMS blacklisting for selected numbers, USB charging and Mass storage (can double up as a flash drive as and when required), Bluetooth, Java, phone as a modem, GPRS/WAP/MMS support etc.

The global telecom equipment and services company will initially manufacture radio frequency modules and systems modules. The company, which began operations here in October 2008, has so far invested Rs 220 crore in 2G hardware. It will invest Rs 105 crore more to ramp up production of 3G products “by almost three-fold towards the latter half of the year.”

The expansion project was today inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr M.K. Stalin. “With 3G licences under way, operators require a local manufacturing partner,” Mr Herbert Merz, Member of Executive Board, NSN, told a press conference here today. He added that the products manufactured by NSN would be LTE-ready (LTE refers to ‘long-term evolution’ or technology beyond 3G).

Mr Merz stressed that the production at the Chennai facility was not just about assembling. The company imports semi-conductors and circuit boards because they are not available in India. The rest of the material is sourced locally, including complex aluminium die-cast products.

After having set up strong pan-India marketing and sales network, SAR Group that manufactures Luminous brand of power and energy storage products is all set to enter the mobile handset market next month as a new entity, Wynn Telecom. Under Wynncom brand, we hope to be among top three Indian handset companies within one year of our operations,” Wynn Telecom Co-founder and Chairman Rakesh Malhotra told The Hindu. Besides offering affordable and unique products, we will leverage the wide presence of Luminous brand to our advantage to tap the Indian market,” he said.

“There is a huge gap between demand and supply in the handset market, thanks to over 1.6-crore new subscribers that are being added every month,” Mr. Malhotra said. In the first year of its operations, Wynn Telecom would spend over $25 million and gradually scale it to $100 million, which includes setting up a manufacturing base in Himachal Pradesh. “Initially, we will be sourcing handsets from China from our dedicated contract manufactures, while we have also set up an exclusive design centre in China for creating India-specific products,” he added.

The Garmin-Asus series of GPS-oriented Nuvifone phones has introduced a new phone that’s a bit more affordable while providing all the same GPS features as its bigger brothers. The new Nuvifone M10 has a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen (65K colours, 480×800 pixels resolution) and runs on the new Windows Mobile 6.5.3 operating system – the only phone in India to come preloaded with this latest version, according to Garmin-Asus.

Other features of the phone include a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus (but no flash), 4GB of internal flash memory (expandable via microSD), Pocket Office, push email, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP and, of course, GPS with A-GPS. Recognizing that location is relevant to every aspect of every day, the Garmin-Asus M10 is designed with location information at its core and it delivers the most advanced location experience on a Windows phone. Navigation functions – available in both Hindi and English – are linked to frequently used applications such as calendar, contacts, email, internet browser, and messaging; making an exceptionally intuitive and smooth navigation experience. All of the maps come pre-loaded on the phone’s internal memory.

The M10 also has highway mode that tells drivers the next three upcoming street exits so they can plan ahead. The device is ready for automotive navigation out-of-the-box, and it includes everything a customer needs to use the device in a car, including a powered cradle and windshield mount. The Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M10 is available in India at Rs. 19,990.

Following closely on the heels of iPhone 3GS launch in India, Bharti Airtel has announced that it will be launching the Airtel HTC Smart 3G in India. Unlike most of its more feature packed siblings, the HTC Smart is not powered by Android or Windows Mobile. HTC has instead opted to go with Qualcomm Brew. Smart is a pleasant looking device featuring a 2.8-inch resistive display and a three mega-pixel fixed-focus camera.

One of the main attractions of this pretty little handset is Scenes, which are essentially different phone configurations that reflect different moods in your daily self. The user interface (UI) bears all the hallmarks of a HTC phone. It is charming and simply to use. The panel based UI does a good job at providing quick access to stuff that you require, while the contact manager neatly clubs together SMS, e-mail and Facebook communications.

Airtel will be selling the HTC Smart for Rs. 9,900, which is reasonable for a capable budget smartphone with 3G support. While designing Smart, HTC obviously paid a lot of attention affordability. However, don’t let that fool you into thinking that Smart is an inferior device. If you are looking for a 3G enabled budget smart phone, then this may be just be it.
